If the tiles are firmly attached you may not be able to remove them without breaking but here s how to give it a try.

When you believe you have removed or cut away most of the grout stop and examine your work. Fill drywall gouges with drywall joint compound and sand it smooth. Corner tiles have two free sides making them easier to access and remove. To remove thinset use a stiff putty knife and some elbow grease to scrape it from the wall.

Cut away the grout surrounding the tile or tiles that you want to remove. Then make and x motion within the tile with the tile cutter. In order to remove wall tiles one needs several tools. Next position a chisel in the grout line under the bottom of the tile and tap it gently with a hammer to see if the tile will pop loose be careful not to chip or crack the adjoining tile.

Allow to fully dry. Once those tiles loosen pry them off. Take your time to tap out the first one then attack the exposed. Using a cold chisel and hammer to remove a ceramic tile.

Repeat step 6 one more time just to be on the safe side. To remove an existing tile use a nail set to mark the surface then drill holes through the tile using carbide tipped masonry bit. Remove the grout by using a rotary cutting tool to cut along all of the grout lines. Run the gout cutter around the tile edges in the grout area.

How to remove ceramic floor tile without breaking it. For semi soft adhesive mastic use 120 grit sandpaper to remove it from the wall. Have an assistant wearing leather gloves catch the tiles as they come away before they fall. Be careful to cut away only the grout and not into the wall.

By working along the edge there are always two edges. Tiles installed with thinset or another tile adhesive often require more work to remove them. Pay particular attention to areas around doors and windows where decorative moldings and edging strips change direction. Of course that you can do this operation mechanically by using a drill machine with hammering function but if you want to remove the tiles without breaking them it is better to do it by hand.

Work slowly and at about a 45 degree angle. They are often secured with less adhesive. The first tile is generally much harder than the rest. Finally chisel away the title with a cold chisel and remove any loose mortar.

This will further loosen the tile reducing the chances of you damaging the drywall behind it when you start removing the tile from the wall. Protect your eyes and lungs from ceramic dust particles by wearing safety goggles and a heavy duty dust mask. A hammer a good chisel with two ends and a scraper.
